RE: Possible New to Me Truck - My Dream & Dilema

My sig truck gets an average 17-17.5 mpg on my 90 mile daily commute with 4.10 rear. I had a 2000 F150 5.4, 3.73 LS rear and got the same mileage, but the 150 wouldn't be able to pull my fifth wheel. I'm hoping with the turbo back 4" exhaust That number will improve.

RE: Sleep Number competition

No I don't have the bear bed or sleep numbers as yet, but bear bed was highly talked about on another forum a while back. The main difference was the compressor was built into the bed foam, where slepp numbers is/was seperated, and you had air lines running to the air pump. this may have changed since I looked last

RE: Why a 5'er??

YnotTurbo, You state "you lose the truck bed" is because the hitch is always in there when not towing or you can't get a much stuff in the bed while towing? I'm asking just for clarification, no other reason. My hitch comes out and leaves a flat floor. Also, I do put things in the bed while pulling the fifth wheel, I just make sure the don't interfere with turning and the light cord. I also make sure things are straped down so they won't blow out.

RE: wheel choke block location

I had my fifth wheel roll back about a foot with when unhooking. I had the little yellow chock behind the wheels. That was the last time, I ordered the BAL Deluxe Chocks and have never had another problem. First thing done before unhooking, last thing done when hooking up.

RE: Propane issue with refrigerator and hot water heater

Does the stove light? If so run it for about a minute to clear any air in line, but a low battery would be my first guess also.

RE: Expedition Sway

Just remember that when you lighten the load of the trailer to also make sure you have more weight in front on the axles than the rear. Too much rear weight will cause even more problems.

RE: Crack in gray water tank

Plastic weld would be the best, but JB weld, or a two part epoxy glue will also work. (the type in the twin tubes you mix together.

RE: Need some techie help on home tv antenna

My first thought would be a coax connector that outer foil/braided wire is not grounding to the outside of the connector. It is a very common mistake made when putting on coax connectors, most will remove all the outer shield down to the white insulation and install the connector. You need about 1/4 inch of the shield folded over the outside insulation, before you install and crimp the connection.

RE: Big Family TT Dilema

Why not look at a 12 passager full size van, I don't know of any SUV that will handle 8 with car seats? You can get gas or deisel.

RE: load range on tires

A 4 year old trailer may have 5 year old ties (or older), average life of a trailer tire is 5 years. Also some manufactures were using tires that were close if not under rated for the trailer. Weight the trailer packed as you would for a qweek long trip, and then determine what rating you need. (total trailer weight divided by 4, then move up at least one rating on tire if you are close to max.) Also keep away from tires made in China.

RE: Dutch Oven recipe help?

Tried the chocolate cake cherry recipe this last weekend and it was a big hit. Had nothing left in the D.O. but what needed washed out. Thanks for the recipe.

RE: Smaller pickups

I heard from my DS that the Ranger plant in the Twin Cities (Minn/St. Paul MN) that was to be closed is running close to max right now due to new sales orders coming in.

RE: 03 Ford Dually w/Lance 1030 front odd front tire wear

If Ford replaced the ball joints under warranty, then I would suspect that the new ones are bad by now. Ford uses a greaseless ball joint that has a ceramic/plastic cup in it, and a F350 just bangs the heck out of them. I had to have mine replaced, the tire shop said they were bad, dealer said they weren't. I was right at the end of my 100k extended warranty. Ended up having them replaced at 110K with ones you can grease ball joints from NAPA. Made a big difference in handling. My tire guy said it wasn't uncommon to replace Ford ball joints at 50k, depending on type of roads traveled.

RE: Any New Pick-Ups Deals Too Good To Pass Up?

The dealer does not set the employee price ("A" Plan) Ford does. The only thing the dealer can do is the trade in, and most likely they don't want them right now. That's why the dealer can't take anymore off the price.

RE: Neutral to sell

Well GM is going to have to do what Ford Has been doing for the past few year; Close plants and layoffs. My DS is a Ford UAW worker at the Kansas City(Claycomo) MO. plant and so far has enough time in that the next round of layoffs won't get to him (second shift on F150 line) Ford is going to put those laid off onto a new third shift on the Escape line. Some may get bumpped around to differnt shifts, but they will still have a job. Good luck to the GM employee's they are going to need it. BenK you've had some Six Sigma training!
